Concordia’s Indigenous Directions welcomes Ghislain Picard and Geoff Kelley as experts-in-residence
Ghislain Picard and Geoff Kelley will offer their considerable knowledge of leadership, politics and the inside workings of government to Concordia students as experts-in-residence.
Picard is Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) and Kelley was a long-serving Member of the National Assembly of Quebec. They began their two-year Indigenous Directions residencies in early September.
“For the next two years, Ghislain Picard and Geoffrey Kelley will bring to Concordia an unprecedented look at Indigenous politics and governance from an Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspective,” explains Manon Tremblay, senior director of Indigenous Directions.
Concordia’s experts-in-residence, such as the jurist-in-residence and the Mordecai Richler Writer in Residence in the Faculty of Arts and Science and the executive in residence in the John Molson School of Business, allow students to learn firsthand from experienced industry professionals.

Ghislain Picard (né en 1955 à Pessamit au Québec) est un militantinnu et chef de l'Assemblée des Premières Nations du Québec et du Labrador depuis 1992.
Biographie
[modifier | modifier le code]Originaire de la communauté innue de Betsiamites sur la Côte-Nord, Ghislain Picard commence des cours en arts et communications en 1976.
Il fait un bref séjour au sein de la fonction publique fédérale en 1978 où il reçoit une offre du Conseil des Atikamekw et des Montagnais où il occupe jusqu'en 1983 divers postes en communication.
En 1983, il devient cofondateur de la Société de communication atikamekw-montagnais qui diffuse des émissions radiophoniques en langue autochtone à l'ensemble des communautés Atikamekw et Montagnaises.
En 1989, il est élu vice-président au sein du Conseil des Atikamekw et des Montagnais.
En , il est élu chef régional de l'Assemblée des Premières Nations pour la région du Québec et du Labrador[1]. Il y assure le lien avec les quarante-trois chefs de sa région[2].

He is the Regional AFN Chief of Quebec and Labrador. He is Innu (Montagnais) from the community of Betsiamites. After studying Communications in 1976 and brief stint in the public service in 1978, he was offered a position with the Atikamekw and Montagnais Council and various posts in communications until 1983. In 1983, after taking part in the establishment of a network of community radio stations for his people, he became co-founder of the Atikamekw and Montagnais Communications Corporation. In 1989 he was elected vice-president of the Atikamekw and Montagnais Council. Picard was elected Regional Chief in 1992 and has been a member of the AFN Executive Committee since then.
