PARIS — Robert Ricci, who was a young designer and his mother a model when in 1932 they began what became the world-famous Nina Ricci fashion house, has died, a company spokesman said Tuesday.
The leading Paris couturier and perfume maker was 83.
Ricci, president of Couture et Parfums Nina Ricci and honorary president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, an association of professional couturiers, died Monday night in his Paris home, the spokesman added.
Born in Paris, the son of a jeweler, Ricci became interested in marketing and graphic art.
He founded the fashion house Nina Ricci at age 27, and as president oversaw both the business and creative aspects of the enterprise. His mother, who died in 1970 at the age of 87, provided artistic inspiration.
The pre-war success of the company was rapid. In 1932, Nina Ricci had 22 employees. By 1939, there were 450.

Bob was born in 1935 in Arce (Frosinone) Italy, the son of Domenico and Tomasina Ricci. He died August 1, 2011 in the Veterans Hospital in Palo
Alto, California.
His family moved from Italy to Providence, Rhode Island and then in 1950 to Modesto, California. He graduated from Modesto High School in 1953 and then served two years in the U.S. Army. He earned his B.S. from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Masters from Boston University in 1962. Bob married Marlene Brock of Woodburn, Oregon, who also became a teacher in the DoDDS system.
He spent his teaching career in the Department of Defense Dependent Schools : one year in Ankara, Turkey; five years in Stuttgart, Germany; and 28 years in Vicenza, Itlay – teaching math and science classes. He loved soccer and was a coach of the Vicenza High School team for all of his years there. Bob taught approximately 37,000 classes in a 40 year span and wore a necktie to school every day. 85 passed away at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center on February 22, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. He was the devoted husband of Josephine "Jo" Marie (Chirico) Ricci for nearly 57 years until her death in 2013.
He was born in Providence and was the middle son to John B. Ricci, Sr. and Mildred (Sullivan) Ricci. He is predeceased by his brother, John (Jack) Ricci, Jr. of Houston, TX and Ralph Ricci of Providence.
Bob was predeceased by his eldest son, Bob, of Nashville, TN. He leaves a granddaughter, Nina Rose Ricci (a singer/songwriter), of Nashville. Bob leaves his daughter, Sharon Flanders, and son-in-law John D. Flanders, MD and granddaughter, Victoria Hannah Flanders of Saunderstown. He also leaves his son and best friend, Steven J. Ricci, of Cranston, where they resided together through Bob's illness.
