Ali Babacan

Ali Babacan (Ankara, 4 april1967) is een Turkse politicus en voormalig minister van Economische Zaken en voormalig vicepremier in het kabinet-Erdoğan III. Hij was van 2007 tot 2009 minister van Buitenlandse Zaken van Turkije. Babacan volgde Abdullah Gül op, die president werd. Hij was eerder als minister van Economie namens de Gerechtigheids- en Ontwikkelingspartij (AK-partij) lid van het 58e kabinet, dat in 2002 aan de macht kwam. Tussen 2009 en 2011 was hij voor de tweede keer minister van Economische zaken. In 2019 stapte Ali Babacan uit de AK-partij om in 2020 de politieke partij Partij voor Democratie en Vooruitgang op te richten.

Ali Babacan (Turkish pronunciation:[aˈlibabaˈdʒan]; born 4 April 1967) is a Turkish politician, economist, and engineer. He is the founder and current leader of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA). He served 13 years as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economy, Chief Negotiator for the EU and Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey from 2002 to 2015. He was a member of the parliament as well.

He first served as the Minister of State in charge of economic affairs in the 58th cabinet from the Justice and Development Party (AKP). He retained this position throughout the 58th and 59th Governments of the Republic of Turkey. On 29 August 2007 he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the 60th Government of the Republic of Turkey.[1] During 2009–2015, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs of Turkey.
