Ramla bint Abi Sufyan (Umm-e Habiba): Mothers of the Faithful

Ramla bint Abi Sufyan (RA) was one of the earliest individuals to enter the fold of Islam and had the blessed opportunity to become the wife of our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Throughout her historical accounts, she was recognized for her gentle disposition and her nature was defined by serenity, tranquility, and magnanimity. She chose the love of Allah (SWT) and His beloved Messenger (peace be upon him) above all else- making her one of the highly esteemed women in the realm of Islam.

Ramla bint Abi Sufyan (RA) came into the world almost thirteen years before prophethood. She was born in the household of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, who was the chief of the most powerful tribe of Quraysh and was, at the time, one of the greatest enemies of Islam and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Her mother, Safiyya bint Abil Aas, was the aunt of Usman bin Affan (RA). Abu Sufyan Ibn Harb out rightly shunned Islamic thought and denied the truthfulness of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and spent great wealth in oppressing

Her Family :
She was Ramla daughter of Abu Sufyan, the leader of Quraish and the unbeliever's until the great victory, she embraced Islam although her father was an atheist by then.

Before the marriage :
She married Ubaidellah Ibn Jahsh who embraced Islam as well. When Muslims were tortured in Mecca she emigrated to Abyssinia with her husband where she gave birth to her baby girl Habeeba

She endured patiently the sufferings of alienation until an incident that shook her life took place. She narrated that incident saying, "I saw in a dream my husband Ubaidellah Ibn Jahsh in a bad appearance. It was a horrible dream. In the morning I found out that he converted to Christianity. I told him what I had seen in my dream but he did not care about it"

Ubaidellah Ibn Jahsh did his best to convert his wife, but she refused totally. She begged him to stay a Muslim but he insisted in converting thinking that that would give him more privileges and credit in Abyssinia which was a Christian country. Then he started to drink wine excessively and died
