KATZMANN, MARY JANE (Lawson), poet, editor, and historian; b. 15 Jan. 1828 at Preston, N.S., daughter of Christian Conrad Caspar Katzmann and Martha Prescott; m. 31 Dec. 1868 William Lawson, a prominent merchant in Halifax, N.S., and they had a daughter; d. 23 March 1890 in Halifax.
Mary Jane Katzmann’s father, a native of Hanover (Federal Republic of Germany), was a graduate of Göttingen University. He obtained a commission in the 60th Regiment of the British army during the Peninsular War, and then settled in Nova Scotia. His wife was descended from a prominent New England planter family. Living amid cultured surroundings, Mary Jane displayed a precocious intelligence and an early interest in literature. She could read at the age of three, and, with the guidance of her family, was largely self-educated. Her early poetical efforts, which Joseph Howe* is said to have encouraged, appeared in various local newspapers.

German SS and Police Leader (1906–1957)
Fritz Katzmann, also known as Friedrich Katzmann, (6 May 1906 – 19 September 1957) was a German SS and Police Leader during the Nazi era. He perpetrated genocide in the cities of Kattowitz (today, Katowice), Radom, Lemberg (today, Lviv), Danzig (today, Gdańsk), and across the Nazi occupied District of Galicia in the General Government during the Holocaust in Poland, making him a major figure during the Holocaust there.[1]
Katzmann was responsible for many of the atrocities that were perpetrated by the SS during Operation Barbarossa. He personally directed the slaughter of between 55,000 and 65,000 Jews of Lemberg between 1941 and 1942, followed by mass deportations to death camps including Janowska (pictured). In 1943, Katzmann wrote a top-secret report summarizing Operation Reinhard in Galicia. The Katzmann Report is now considered one of the most important pieces of evidence of the extermination process. He managed to escape prosecution after the war, living under a false identity.[2]

Nosie Katzmann (born Jürgen Katzmann in 1959) is a German dance music songwriter and producer.
He is known for writing songs for several European electronic dance acts like Culture Beat and Captain Hollywood Project, for whom he contributed various chart hits, among them "Mr. Vain", "More and More" and others.[1] "More and More" was his first No. 1 in Germany.[2] In 1993, "Mr. Vain" became his biggest hit so far, topping the charts in Germany,[3] Austria, Switzerland and the UK.[4]
