Every Wednesday at 9 pm local time, the BBC’s Nepali Service airs an interview-format programme. The programme, ‘Nepal Sandarbha’ (‘Nepali Context’), had become synonymous with one name, Rabindra Mishra, the BBC’s Nepali Service Editor.
Mishra’s pointed questions and ‘cross-examination’ was a hit among the listeners who would write to the BBC to commend his interviews. However, last night (Wednesday, March 1), it was someone else who was who was running Nepal Sandarbha show.
The reason: Mishra quit the BBC just the previous day to launch his own political party, ‘Sajha’ (Common).
When Mishra announced his resignation from one of the most reputed media houses in the world, with which he was associated for over 22 years, his boss had one thing to say to him: You are taking a big leap of faith.

Rabindra Mishra (Nepali: रवीन्द्र मिश्र) is a Nepali philanthropist, ex-journalist, writer, poet, and politician. Currently, Mishra is the Senior Vice-chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, after having resigned as a general member of Bibeksheel Sajha Party in September 2022.[1]
He earlier resigned as the national president of Bibeksheel Sajha Party in May 2022. He formerly worked as the editor-in-chief of BBC Nepali Service,[2] and left the BBC in February 2017 to enter Nepalese politics. Mishra is also the founder of the global charity, Help Nepal Network, which has chapters in 14 countries and is run entirely by volunteers.[3]
Education
Mishra received his Master's Degree in English Literature from Tribhuvan University. He then went to University of the Punjab, Pakistan, earning a Master's Degree in journalism. He joined University of London and majored in International Politics.[4][5]

Bhubaneswar: Rabindra Narayan Mishra, eminent writer, columnist and former Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), passed away in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday following a prolonged illness. He was 87.
Mishra, who was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments at a private hospital, breathed his last this evening, family sources said.
A supreme devotee of the Lord Jagannath, his demise came on the auspicious occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. Coincidentally, today was also his birthday.
Known as a commentator on spiritual matters especially on Jagannath culture, he served as an officer in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS). The highlight of his illustrious career was his tenure as Administrator of the SJTA during which he played a significant role in the development of the 12th century shrine.
The former administrator was a columnist writing for ‘Akasha Deepa’. He used to write also for a periodical named ‘Kathatie Kahun’.
A well-known writer and expert on Jagannath culture, he was the elder brother of renowned cardiologist and writer Dr Kabi Prasa
