Masih Alinejad (Persian: مسیح علینژاد, born Masoumeh Alinejad-Ghomikolayi (Persian: معصومه علینژاد قمیکُلایی), September 11, 1976[citation needed]) is an Iranian-American[4]journalist, author, and women's rights activist.[5][6] Alinejad works as a presenter/producer at Voice of America Persian News Network, a correspondent for Radio Farda, a frequent contributor for Manoto television, and a contributing editor for IranWire.[7] Alinejad focuses on criticism of the status of human rights in Iran, especially women's rights.[8]Time magazine named her among its 2023 honorees for Women of the Year.[9]

Masih Alinjead is an Iranian-American journalist, TV presenter, women’s rights activist and author of best-selling memoir, The Wind in My Hair. Born and raised in Iran, Masih was a parliamentary journalist in Tehran, where she often got into trouble for her articles on corruption and malfeasance among the lawmakers. In 2009, she was forced to leave Iran after the crackdown on protests against the disputed presidential elections. In 2014, Masih founded the My Stealthy Freedom/White Wednesday campaign against compulsory hijab, which is the largest civil disobedience campaign in the history of Islamic Republic. She has more than eight million followers on her social media accounts. Masih Alinejad is founder of the My Stealthy Freedom campaign against the compulsory hijab, a women’s rights activist, author and journalist.
Born in Iran, Alinejad was jailed at 18 for her writings against the Islamic Republic. She became a journalist at the ILNA news agency and at Hambastegi, a reformist newspaper where she exposed corruption among Iranian members of parliament. She later became a columnist for Etemad Melli, a daily newspaper founded by presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi.
She left Iran in 2009, escaping arrest after fraudulent presidential elections that saw the re-election of Mahmood Ahmadinejad. In 2014, Alinejad created the My Stealthy Freedom campaign to provide a platform for Iranian women to protest compulsory hijab rules. As part of this campaign, she has initiated a number of sub-campaigns including #MeninHijab, #WhiteWednesdays, #WalkingUnveiled and #MyCameraisMyWeapon.
