Cordero, Angel Tomas, Jr.
(b. 8 November 1942 in Santurce, Puerto Rico), Thoroughbred jockey, trainer, and owner who rode to more than 7,000 career wins, including three Kentucky Derby victories, and amassed a multimillion-dollar personal fortune.
Cordero is the son of Angel T. Cordero, Sr., and Mercedes (Hernandez) Cordero. It is no surprise that he gravitated toward a career in the saddle, as his mother was the daughter of a jockey and a trainer, and he had some twenty uncles and cousins who also rode professionally. Cordero was first put on the back of a horse at the tender age of five months. By the time he was three years old he "rode" an old saddle on a fence and was adept at transferring his switch from one hand to the other.
Cordero studied at the Institute of Puerto Rico, otherwise known as Puerto Rico Junior College of Accounting. Miguel Ángel Cordero Sánchez (born 10 September 1987) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder.
Club career
Born in Lebrija, Province of Seville, Cordero arrived at Sevilla FC's youth ranks at the age of 12 from local CA Antoniano. In 2006 he moved to Sevilla Atlético, helping Sevilla FC's reserves to achieve promotion to Segunda División.[1]
After totalling 45 matches with Sevilla B the following two seasons – suffering relegation in his second – and some call-ups to the first team, although he never appeared officially for the Andalusians, Cordero was loaned to another side in the third tier, Real Madrid Castilla. In August 2010 he signed with Xerez CD, returning to his native region.[2]

Hall of Fame Jockey Angel Cordero Jr. serves as a bloodstock adviser to Jake Ballis on the Thoroughbred purchases of Ballis Racing. Cordero and Ballis have been good friends since Ballis was a child, as Cordero rode horses for Ballis’ father, John Ballis.
In addition to assisting Ballis Racing, Cordero also serves as the jockey agent for Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez, who has ridden several mounts for Ballis Racing over the years.

One of the fiercest competitors and most popular figures in the history of Thoroughbred racing, Angel Cordero, Jr. was born May 8, 1942 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His father, Angel Cordero, Sr., was a rider and trainer and several of his uncles were involved with Thoroughbreds. Cordero rode his first winner in Puerto Rico in 1960 and came to ride in the United States two years later.
Cordero became known as the “King of Saratoga.” He won 13 riding titles at the Spa, including 11 in a row. Cordero won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey
