Donald P. Bellisario(born August 8, 1935) is an American television producer and screenwriter who created and oftentimes, also wrote episodes for Quantum Leapas well as the TV series Magnum, P.I., Airwolf, JAG, and NCIS. He has often included military veterans as characters.

Bellisario was born in Charleroi or Cokeburg, Pennsylvania to an Italian father Albert and a Serbian mother Dana (née Lapčević) Bellisario[1] who was born in Gamberale, Abruzzo, Italy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Donald Paul Bellisario (born 8 August 1935) was a producer, scriptwriter and director on the original Battlestar Galactica television series. After Galactica, he went on to create Magnum P.I., Airwolf, Quantum Leap, JAG, and Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Born in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Bellisario served as a United States Marine in the 1950s. Graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelors in Journalism, Bellisario worked for 15 years writing advertisements before relocating to Hollywood. His military career has influenced his television and film work, starting with Baa Baa Black Sheep in the 1970's. His realistic depiction of military culture is one of his main contributions to Galactica.

Donald Paul Bellisario was born on August 8, 1935, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to Albert Jethro and Dana Lapcevic Bellisario. His father was of Italian descent and owned a local tavern where veterans came to share World War II stories that Bellisario actively listened to. As soon as Bellisario was old enough, he entered the armed forces and served in the Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. He was discharged as a Sergeant and awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. After his service, Bellisario attended Pennsylvania State University and, in 1961, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. His first career was in advertising, which he pursued for fifteen years before moving to Hollywood at the age of 41.

He was hired to write a screenplay for "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and eventually promoted to a producer within this television series. "Baa Baa Black Sheep," also known as "Black Sheep Squadron," aired on The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) from 1976-1978.
