Frederic Clay Bartlett (June 1, 1873 – June 25, 1953) was an American artist and art collector known for his collection of French Post-Impressionist and modernist art.[1] Bartlett was committed to promoting the work of fellow contemporary artists and was a founding member of the Arts Club of Chicago, a pioneering organization dedicated to the advancement of modern art.
Early life
Bartlett was born in Chicago to Mary Pitkin Bartlett and Adolphus Clay Bartlett, the president of Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Company, the company that originated the label True Value.[2][3] He attended St. Paul's in Concord, New Hampshire, and the Harvard School for Boys in Chicago. However, at the age of nineteen, instead of pursuing a college degree, Bartlett traveled to Europe from Chicago to study art [4]

Biography
Frederic Clay Bartlett, III was born on 29 June 1932 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA and was the son of Mary Agnes (Tilt, 1905–1977) and Frederic Clay Bartlett, Jr. (1907–1955).
After the divorce of his biological parents, his mother married secondly to John Wentworth, who adopted him, leading to his name change from Frederic Clay Bartlett, III to Eric Bartlett Wentworth.
He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy (1950); Harvard University (1954); and Columbia University Journalism School (1958).
He served as a Lieutenant in a tank battalion in post-war Germany.
