Theodore Raymond Knight (born March 26, 1973) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Dr. George O'Malley on the ABCmedical drama television series Grey's Anatomy (2005–2009, 2020), which earned him a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2007.

Early life

Knight was born March 26, 1973,[1] in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he became involved with the Guthrie Theater at the age of twelve.[2] He attended Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, for grades K-8.[3] Knight received the Conners Foundation Scholarship as a freshman and apprenticed at the Children's Theatre Company. Knight was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he became involved with the Guthrie Theater at the age of five. After finishing high school at the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, Knight enrolled at the University of Minnesota for a brief period of time. He dropped out and soon landed leading roles at the Guthrie Theater.

Knight moved to New York City and has appeared on Broadway; his most notable role was playing opposite Patti LuPone in the 2001 revival of "Noises Off". Knight's most recent stage appearance was in the 2004 drama, Boy. He also gained notice performing in 2003 as Damis in Tartuffe and received a Drama Desk Award nomination in 2003 for his role in the off-Broadway production of "Scattergood".

T. R. Knight was just five years-old when he became involved with Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater. Later, he briefly attended the University of Minnesota before dropping out and accepting leading roles at the Guthrie Theater. Eventually, Knight relocated to New York City where he starred in the 2001 Noises Off Broadway revival with Patti LuPone. In 2003, he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for a role in the off-Broadway production, Scattergood. Knight then moved to television and was cast in Charlie Lawrence with Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf. By 2005, he was starring in ABC's hit medical drama, Grey's Anatomy.

A year later, Knight became the subject of controversy when co-star Isaiah Washington insulted Knight's sexual orientation during an argument with Patrick Dempsey.
