About Brian Jacques

Brian Jacques (pronounced 'jakes') was born in Liverpool, England on June 15th, 1939. Along with forty percent of the population of Liverpool, his ancestral roots are in Ireland, County Cork to be exact.

Brian grew up in the area around the Liverpool docks, where he attended St. John's School, an inner city school featuring a playground on its roof. At the age of ten, his very first day at St. John's foreshadowed his future career as an author; given an assignment to write a story about animals, he wrote a short story about a bird who cleaned a crocodile's teeth. Dr. Brian J. Jaques is an Assistant Professor in the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering and the director of the Boise State Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) at Boise State University. In addition, he is the Nuclear Energy Focus lead at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls, holds a joint appointment with the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Metallurgy and Materials Science in the state of Idaho. Dr. Jaques is the Boise State program director for the Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation (ASI) with the INL, which is a cross-disciplinary research program to develop and mature novel sensors for in-pile (in nuclear reactor core) applications that can provide real-time, accurate, and spatially resolved information regarding test conditions and the performance of fuels and materials during irradiation. James Brian Jacques (pronounced "Jakes") (15 June 1939 - 5 February 2011[2]) was an English author. He is best known for his Redwall series of books, as well as the Tribes of Redwall and Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series. He also wrote two books of short stories called, The Ribbajack & Other Curious Yarns and Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales.[3]
