Frances Wang is an anchor/reporter for NBC10. She joined the station in January 2022. You can watch her anchor weekend mornings and report weekdays on NBC10.

Frances is passionate about telling compelling stories about people in the community. Her favorite part of her job is getting to know people she may not have met otherwise and learning from them.

“I've heard nothing but AMAZING things about Philadelphia,” said Frances. “From the food scene to the passionate, loyal sports fans to the community pride. Philadelphians are known to be real and genuine; I can't wait to meet everyone.”

Fluent in Mandarin, Frances is a proud first generation Chinese American and loves sharing stories of her family, culture, and upbringing.

“I'm a HUGE foodie and love eating 'family style' or as I like to say, 'Chinese style' because you get to try a little bit of everything.”

Frances Kai-Hwa Wang is a journalist, essayist, and poet focused on Asian and Asian American issues.

 

The child of immigrants, she was born in Los Angeles, raised in Silicon Valley, started writing in Kathmandu, and now divides her time between Michigan and Hawai‘i.

 

Her writing has appeared at NBC Asian America, PRI Global Nation, Detroit Journalism Cooperative, Pacific Citizen, New America Media, Cha Asian Literary Journal, and various anthologies and art exhibitions.

 

She has degrees in Asian Studies (China) and Chinese Philosophy, and she teaches Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies at University of Michigan and creative writing at University of Hawaii Hilo.

 

She co-created a multimedia artwork on the H-1B visa for the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center Indian American Heritage Project.

 

She is a Knight Arts Challenge Detroit artist working on a book about the art and activism of the Vincent Chin case.

Frances Kai-Hwa Wang[1] is an American writer and educator based in Michigan and Hawai‘i.

She was a 2019 Knight Arts Challenge winner[2] receiving $25,000 for her project "Beyond Vincent Chin: Legacies in Action and Art" addressing a key case in Asian American history and its impacts since his murder in 1982. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation created the award as part of its efforts to foster "informed and engaged communities" which the foundation believes are "essential for a healthy democracy."

She is the author of the books "Imaginary Affairs-Postcards from an Imagined Life," "Where the Lava Meets the Sea," and "Dreams of Diaspora." Her poetry is featured extensively in international publications including Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, Kartika Review, Ricepaper, and Drunken Boat, in addition to part of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center Indian American Heritage Project
