Deutsche Bank reveals radical restructuring plan

Deutsche Bank has announced a radical restructuring as part of a drive to restore its reputation and profitability.

The investment bank is being split, with several senior bankers departing.

The chairman, Paul Achleitner, described it as a "fundamental reorganisation" that required tough decisions.

New boss John Cryan is under pressure to reform Deutsche following a series of scandals.

Earlier this year the bank was fined $2.5bn (£1.7bn) for its role in the Libor-rigging affair.

The fine resulted in co-chief executives Juergen Fitschen and Anshu Jain resigning in June, to be replaced by Mr Cryan.

As part of the drive to simplify the management structure, the investment bank's sales and trading activities will become part of a new division called global markets.

It will be run by Garth Richie, head of Deutsche's equities business.

The corporate and investment banking division will be headed by Jeff Urwin, a Briton whom Deutsche poached earlier this year from JP Morgan.

A member of the Democratic Party,[2] he served on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners from 1999 to 2010, and in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017.

From 2019 to 2022, in the Michigan Senate, he represented the 18th Senate district, which encompassed the cities of Ann Arbor, Saline, Ypsilanti, and Milan (portion) and the townships of Ann Arbor, Pittsfield, York, Augusta, Salem, Superior, and Ypsilanti.[3] He replaced Rebekah Warren, who was term limited.

The 15th Senate district since 2022 encompasses the southern part of Washtenaw County, including part of Ann Arbor and all of Saline and Ypsilanti, as well as small parts of Lenawee County, and Monroe county.[4]

Early life and education

Irwin was born in Petoskey,

“The military will show you that sleep deprivation is a form of torture,” she says. “Not being able to get regular sleep is a detriment to your life, to your health.”

Her life revolved around her job, she says. She dated another banker. Many of her friends were — and still are — bankers because they understood last-minute cancellations and upset vacation plans.

“You always remain close to the people you’ve gone to war with,” she says. “It’s a lot of misery they can understand.”

Ahmad says she loved her job, as exhausting as it was. “It was exciting; it was drinking from a fire hose every day,” she says.

Stress Relief

She left Goldman in 2007 to start her own investment firm. She didn’t forget that in her rare leisure hours at the banks, she used baking to help ease the stress. So, in 2013, Ahmad founded Mah-Ze-Dahr Bakery, a New York–based luxury pastry company launched with celebrity chef Tom Colicchio. She is also a managing director at New York investment firm Specialized Capital Management & Advisory.
