That’s why it was a natural in college for Pauline Kezer.At 5 feet 4 inches and about 100 pounds, Kezer had less brawn than her Colby College teammates. But she had speed — and determination.

Three decades later, Secretary of the State Kezer is still known for her toughness. Witness her performance in July at the state Republican convention: She stood in the aisles in a crowded Bushnell Memorial in Hartford, personally persuading her delegates not to switch their votes to her opponent for the gubernatorial nomination, former Congressman John G. Rowland of Waterbury.

At one point, she even slapped a security guard in the face when he screamed at her to clear the aisle. Kezer says the slap — replayed many times by Connecticut TV stations — was unintentional.

Pauline Ryder Kezer (born February 4, 1942)[1] is an American politician who served as Secretary of the State of Connecticut from 1991 to 1995.[2] She previously served in the Connecticut General Assembly. Since August 2014 she has served as president of the Alden Kindred of America, which owns and operates the John and Priscilla Alden Family Sites.[3]

Early life and education

Kezer was born Pauline Ryder to a working-class family in Waltham, Massachusetts, on February 4, 1942. She attended Waltham High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, with a minor in biology, from Colby College. She met her future husband, Kenneth Kezer, while both were attending high school.[4] In 1964, the couple married and moved to Plainville, Connecticut. Ken Kezer coached baseball for 41 years and football for 21 years at New Britain High School.[5]

Pauline Kezer worked as a science teacher from 1964 to 1979 and volunteered for the local Republican Party.[6][1

Pauline Kezer is the current president of the Kindred, a position she has held since August 2014. A lifelong community volunteers, Pauline was the founder of the CT Race for the Cure (Breast Cancer and President of Susan G. Komen CT Breast Cancer Foundation, VP of founding board of the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, President of the New Britain YWCA, and served for nine years as a National Board Member of Girl Scouts of the USA.

Pauline is has been active participant in both state and local government for over twenty years. She was a State Legislator for 8 years, elected CT Secretary of State from 1990-94, and appointed CT Asst. Treasurer in 1997. Pauline was the CEO of Hartford Ballet 1995-97. She ran KEZERCONSULTING for several years before her retirement.
