John Danaher (born April 2, 1967) is a US-born New Zealand martial artist. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA) instructor and coach. Danaher is widely regarded as one of the best instructors and coaches in these sports.[3][4][5][6]

Danaher holds a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Renzo Gracie, and he is a former instructor at the Renzo Gracie Academy in Manhattan.[7] Danaher grew up in New Zealand and arrived in the United States in 1991 to study at Columbia University's philosophy Ph.D. program. After arriving in New York, Danaher was introduced to Brazilian jiu-jitsu by a friend at the university, and began taking classes at the Renzo Gracie Academy in Manhattan.[8] He continued training at the academy and began to teach classes as well while Gracie was traveling for competition. Since receiving his black belt in April 2002,[9] he has been an instructor for several notable jiu-jitsu and mixed mart

Philip Danaher (born 5 October 1965) is a retired Irishrugby unionFullback and Centre. He played for St Munchin's College, Garryowen (as captain), Lansdowne, Munster and won 28 caps between 1988 and 1995 for Ireland. He made his international debut against Scotland on 16 January 1988 and captained the team 3 times, including the 1992 Ireland rugby union tour of New Zealand. [1][2] .[3]

Danaher was a squad member in the Five Nations Championship from 1988 to 1990 and 1992 to 1995 and in tours to France 1988, North America 1989, New Zealand 1992 and Australia 1994. He was not a member of the squads for the 1991 or 1995 Rugby World Cups.

He retired in 1996 following a serious thumb injury.[4] He was later assistant coach on tours to South Africa 1998 and Australia 1999.[citation needed]
