Eileen May Ash (néeWhelan; 30 October 1911 – 3 December 2021) was an English cricketer and supercentenarian who played primarily as a right-arm mediumbowler.

As Eileen Whelan, she appeared in seven Test matches for England between 1937 and 1948/49.[1][2] Ash was the longest-lived international cricketer, living to the age of 110 years and 34 days.[3][4][5]

Early life and education

Eileen May Whelan was born in Highbury, Middlesex.[1] She attended Ursuline Convent in Ilford, east London, where she captained the First XI hockey team, and also played tennis and netball.[6]

Cricket career

Ash played club cricket for the Ilford Wanderers and Wagtails teams, and top level domestic cricket for Civil Service, Middlesex, and South of England.[1][2][6] She also played Test cricket both before and after World War II, making her debut agai

Eileen has been a part of the 7News family for almost 12 years. Born and raised in Silver Spring, MD, Eileen grew up watching 7News and dreaming of one day being a part of the First Alert Weather team.

Eileen's passion for weather started at an early age. Her dad is in the roofing business, so weather plays a critical part in his work. Eileen found herself watching all the local forecasts and making her own. Her fascination for different weather patterns, storms, hurricanes, and overall impact the weather has on people's everyday lives drove her to pursue a career in broadcast meteorology. Eileen graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross in 2005 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Salisbury University in 2009 with a double major in Earth and Atmospheric Science and Mass Media.

She landed her first on-air job right after college at WBOC in Salisbury, MD. After 2 years forecasting weather on the eastern shore, her dream of working in her hometown market came true when she was hired at 7News in December 2011. Eileen began producing the weather for legenda
