This page lists the top generation of the identified Colgan and McColgan families in the Greater Philadelphia area. It is a highly–dynamic list, undergoing major research and revisions. In some cases (especially where Irish records have not survived), the parents are not known or proven to the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), so many lines might be listed separately as a “family,” as if they were unrelated, because the top generation is not proven. Records in Ireland have been subjected to a number of catastrophic incidents that destroyed many original documents, so some may not be able to be proven – or may take considerable effort to work around.
🇮🇪 Flag note: The Irish flag next to names denotes individuals who were born anywhere on the island of Ireland (both the current Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland). As Northern Ireland has no official flag, grouping all births in Ireland together also reduces confusion. Nearly every Colgan immigrant to the U.S. arrived before partition, so this just creates a quick

James Robert Tyrrell
Australian bookseller, art dealer, publisher and author
James Robert Tyrrell (3 July 1875 – 30 July 1961) was an Australian bookseller, art dealer, publisher and author. He enjoyed a career of seven decades in the booktrade[1] and was esteemed in his era as the "doyen of Sydney booksellers".[2] He wrote a standard history of early bookselling in Australia entitled Old Books, Old Friends, Old Sydney.
Early life and career
Tyrrell was born on 3 July 1875 in Darlington, New South Wales, an inner city suburb of Sydney. His father, George, was born in England and, after serving in the Crimean War, migrated to New South Wales to try his luck on the goldfields. His mother, Mary, née Colgan, was born in Ireland and migrated to Queensland.
He attended school in Balmain and Petersham, and earned pocket money by selling newspapers at Petersham station for the N.S.W. Bookstall Company.[3] At the age of 15, he began to work for the Sydney bookselling firm, Angus and Robertson. His duties in those days included running erra

Vow Ideas
Do you want something a little more special than just repeating what the officiant says?
For these personal vows, the officiant will not read them and you repeat back…but rather you will either memorize them or read them from note cards or maybe a journal. You can type them or handwrite them. Dave and I had a custom journal made when we were married and this is what we wrote our vows in and read from it during the ceremony. Every anniversary since, we have written new vows and pick a special spot to renew them to each other. Last year was Mt. Rainer and this year was “Location A” in the Red River Gorge.
I met with thedesignerof our journal and told her our story…since Dave loves astronomy, she sewed constellations on the front and back cover. On wedding night was a quarter moon, so that is what she added to the front. Since I love to hike, she added a tree to the back cover. As a final touch, she added a rock from the spot where Dave and I had our first date…he took me on a hike on the Rock Bridge Trail in the Red River Gorge. T
